Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has today confirmed the signing of French U21 international Sylvian Marveaux from Rennes for an undisclosed fee. The 25 year old is a left sided midfield player who is a timely arrival at St James Park following the exit of skipper Kevin Nolan to West Ham which will go through on Thursday. Marveaux is set to become yet another good addition to an impressive Newcastle squad and had attracted the interest of other clubs including Liverpool.
Newcastle boss Pardew has said "It's a coup to have signed Sylvain, who has had interest from a number of clubs, he may not be well known to many of our fans, but he is a player we have been keeping an eye on for some time."
Marveaux is the third French midfield player to have joined the Toon Army recently with the arrival of Hatem Ben-Afra last summer and Yohan Cabaye from Lille. He will be joining a Newcastle side who have a very realistic prospect of clinching a European place at the end of the season with Pardew still looking to further strengthen the side. The signing also comes the day after Newcastle confirmed the signature of Demba Ba from West Ham.
