Transfer Rumour Roundup 27th June 2011

Monday, 27 June 2011

Rather than trying to explain everything individually it's much easier to give you the daily highlights on what is happening around Europe in the transfer market, so everyday from now to the start of the season you will get a full run down of transfer rumour and speculation.

The top news from the Premier League today is that Manchester United have made a £15m pound bid for Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara.  Barca's Spanish U21 midfielder shone in the sides recent victorious run in the Euros.  Alcantara is being billed as the natural replacement for long serving midfielder Paul Scholes who retired at the end of last season.

Lille seem to have finally got the idea that Gervinho is no longer wanting to stay in France, he has been linked with a whole host of clubs this summer, just about every top 10 team has had an interest and it seems that finally now he had indicated that he will be joining Arsenal at the Emirates for the beginning of the Premier League season, the fee is somewhere around £12m for the highly rated Ivory Coast International.

Big spending City are also ready to splash the cash, boss Roberto Manchini has highlighted three players he wants at Eastlands for next season.  The first is 23 year old Fiorentina midfielder Allesio Cerci, he has also been linked with Stefan Savic the 20 year old currently plays his football for Partizan Belgrade and commands a £7m asking price.  Last one on city's radar is Sergio Romero a 24 year old Montenegro goalkeeper, who will surely be brought in to cover Joe Hart as Shay Given will be leaving to pursue first team football.

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson has today joined the race to sign Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, he faces stiff competition for the signature though as Bolton and Newcastle have already weighed up with bids believed to be around £6m for the England U21.

Going on elsewhere today Chelsea are hoping to hold onto Portuguese star Jose Bosingwa and stop him joining Besiktas.  Arsenal have made a club record bid for Juan Mata the Valencia midfielder is going to cost around £18m.  Premier League new boys QPR are lining up a bid for Italian World Cup winning captain Fabbio Cannavaro, and Man City have been told it will take a club record of £36m in order to bring top target Hulk of FC Porto to Eastlands for next season.

Villas Boas takes Chelsea job

Thursday, 23 June 2011

With comparissons to Jose Mourinho ringing in his ears new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has taken the same route as his former mentor leaving Portugese club Porto to take the reins at Stamford Bridge.

The 33 year old coach who worked under Mouringho at the Bridge says the comparisions to his former boss are not inevitable but he has assure the Chelsea fans that a very different approch will be taken and this will not be a one man show.

The new boss has signed a three year deal at Chelsea and is the same age as both Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, don't let that fool you though, although young he won the Portugese league, league cup and Europa league last season.  Under Villas-Boas Porto were unbeaten in the league last season with 27 wins in 30 matches they are only second Portugese club to do this since Benfica in the 1972 - 73 campaign.

I personally think a younger inection is maybe just what is need at Chelsea some fresh ideas to take the club forward, some pundits would agree that Villa-Boas is a good move whilst other are sitting on the fence claiming that he is a calculated gamble.

Modric causing a stir for Spurs

Sunday, 19 June 2011

Tottenham's creative midfield play maker is causing a stir at White Hart Lane today.  Croatian midfielder Luka Modric has stated that he is ready to quit Spurs this season on the hunt for a place at one of the top four.  Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp and Chairman Daniel Levy have reacted furiously and slammed a massive message home that "Luka Modric is not for sale at any price".

This comes only days after Chelsea made it public that they had a £22m bid turned down for the midfield star.  Modric has been quoted as saying "I have enjoyed my time at Tottenham and would like to stay in London and join Chelsea.  This is the biggest news and scandal of the transfer window so far this close season and things only look like they are going to get worse, with both Manchester United and Manchester City due to join the race to land Modric in the coming days.  Levy has stated he is furious with both the player and his representatives following his announcement that he wants a move to Stamford Bridge.

You would think that with all the turmoil that Tottenham would surely cut their losses at this point, and cash in on their prize asset.  After all, why keep a player who does not want t be there.  His wages at Tottenham are around £45,000 a week with the highest payed Spurs star Van De Vaart currently earning £65,000 a week.  Chelsea are set to treble the players wages if he joins the blues this summer and with Man Utd ready to offer England Winger Ashley Young £135,000 a week deal Modric must surely have one eye on an extremely lucrative contract, with the possibility of silverware to come.

Chelsea chasing Romelu Lukaku

Saturday, 18 June 2011

18 year old Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku currently playing for Anderlecht is in talks with Chelsea over a possible summer switch to Stamford Bridge.  The managerless Londoners are still making moves in the transfer market despite their being no manager at the Helm.  One would think that favourite Gus Hiddink is calling the shots from a far having things put into place for when he takes the reins.

The highly rated teenager was linked with a possible move to the Premiership in the January window but decided to stay in Belgium until the end of the season.  Chelsea will face stern competition for his signature with Premier league rival Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham all chasing the star.
